This is a science project that you can leave out on the kitchen table to enjoy for as long as you like. The periodic table of elements comes to life in a Periodic Table Cloth of Elements!
Making this cloth is easy. All you need is a white tablecloth, some colored permanent markers, a periodic table of elements chart and a plastic tablecloth protector.
First go online to a site that offers an image of the most recent table of elements.
A good example can be found at:
Draw your table based on that chart on the white cloth. Use the various colors for the types of elements. Place the clear protector over the cloth and the whole family can eat at the table and enjoy learning about the elements.
This idea comes from our friend Jennie whose son Matthew even made up a joke after spending breakfasts looking over this table cloth.

“What did Dmitri Mendeleev say to the elements when they asked why he was getting up to leave the periodic table?”
“None of your Bismuth!”
Very clever!! You can make your own table cloth (or even a life size drawing on the driveway!) and figure out your own fun!
Thanks, Margot. I love all of the ideas you show!
Very clever!
